Past
Alaric was born inside one of the few human kingdoms refusing to have any association with the supernatural upon a world dominated by them. They knew what happens to those humans who associate with these beings. They are destroyed in some shape or form. It is not a fate that Alaric's people wish. So, they decided to guard their boarders and make sure that only humans make their way into their land. If a supernatural beings enters they are hunted and killed.
It didn't take them long after first forming these patrols to realize that some of their people were born with special gifts. Magic to be sure. The mark of the supernatural no doubt, but these abilities proved useful in fighting the supernatural. It was decided inside of outright killing those with these unique talents that they will give their lives keeping the undesirables out. Fate had decreed this was their purpose in life. The order of the hunters were born, or the elites as they would later become known for their superior skills compared to the other warriors within their lands.
They only need to send in a few warriors at most to deal with a situation that other orders require a small legion to deal with. It wasn't just their special talents that gave them the edge. It was their strict training program. They were going up with the supernatural, and as such they needed to hone their skills better than other warriors. As strange as this might sound, in spite their belief that the elites were watered down supernatural they did understand and honor the sacrifice they were making to their society.
The elites are worthless to live. They merely exist to ensure that the normal humans can have lives they are meant to have. A high ranking noble will patron them, and raise them along with their families to a lesser noble if they happen to be born into one of the less well to do classes. Not only that, females will fling themselves at the elite. So, much so that they are never without a companion to share their beds at night. It is considered strange, especially among the noble circle, to be female and not sleep with an elite at least once. There was even a certain stigma for denying an elite.
While the elites were granted many rights and privileges, they were denied the right to live. Anyone born with these special talents had to swear their loyalty to the order or die. There were ways to force someone to take the oath. It was done by bending the mind until it submitted, but more often than not it became broken, or the elite were killed during the process. Only males born with these magical abilities are trained to fight and considered elites. Females born with these gifts have a different fate. The roles of a normal female is never that of a warrior. Her job, her duty is to give men something worth fighting for. She is to be an object and beautiful. Her interests should be gossiping, fashion, arts, music and never politics.
More importantly, if she is unwed a female duty is to find a husband of higher status than hers and raise her families lot in life. They saw no reason why the elite's females should not have a similar duty. Through, theirs was vastly different. Their duty wasn't to find a good match, but instead to bare the children of elite men. Alaric's people didn't completely understand how it worked, but they knew when two people with these special talents had children that their children almost always had special talents. The females were bred with the males by which talents they found desirable.
Alaric wasn't born to an elite male and his female. Both his parents were normal, but extremely poor. They were luckier than many of their status. They, at least, had a roof over their head--a one room shack. He was born the eldest of two, and five years before his sister Isolda. His parents loved their children very much. Their father, especially, was considered abnormal for their society. He was a man whom encouraged his daughter's independent nature as well as keep Alaric hidden when his own talent emerged.
They lived together for twelve years, and then his parents got sick--extremely sick. It was an illness that could have been cured if they had the means, but that was something they didn't have. Alaric watched his parents slowly die, and when they finally did he took the role of guardian for his sister. He took care of her for four years before he was discovered. He was brought to the compound and forced to take the test untrained. While there are those like his father that hide their children from the order, most give their children up as soon as they show they have these talents. These children are trained, prepared for the test they have to take before they are officially sworn into the order. Most who are not trained end up dying during this test.
Death was not an option for Alaric. He knew that his sister's life dependent upon his passing. Society do not honor the elites who do not pass the test. If he passed the test she would want for nothing, and pass he did. Not only that he excelled. So, amazing was his results that rumors begun to spread that he was the dark warrior reborn and the other elites officially accepted him into the order by giving him the nickname The Black Dragon, through most just simply refer to him simply as Dragon. It was done during a private ritual--away from the prying eyes of 'normal' humans. It is a sign of their brotherhood, and only one of their own are allowed to call them by it.
Alaric results, also, caught the interest of the crowned prince, who became his patron. This wasn't surprising to anyone. The better your result the higher your patron was on the social ladder. Alaric and the prince formed somewhat of a friendship, or as much of a friendship that a patron and his elite could form. Alaric was invited to many of the prince's parties--both private and public. He even brought his sister along to the public parties. At first, the prince saw her as an annoying child but as she matured he noticed her for the woman she was and made it clear his intention of marrying her.
Isolda wanted nothing to do with the prince. She thought that the prince was a pompous pig, and preferred to be among her books. Alaric didn't understand her refusal. The higher she rose the further from poverty she would be. While it was within in his right to force her to marry the prince, he never did nor never would. Through, he did pass her difficulties off as their father influence. If he hadn't coddle to her so much she might not be so impossible. More so, if his father hadn't been the way he was he would still be alive. Alaric blamed his father for his parents death and for forcing Isolda to grow-up without her parents. If he had just handed him over to the order he along with Alaric's mother would still be alive.
The prince wasn't the only one to noticed Isolda's beauty as she matured many others--including Alaric himself--noticed it. A fact that he cursed himself for. Incest for his people was considered taboo. Though, Alaric desiring her wasn't the only taboo he found himself interested in. He found that he enjoyed the company of males as much as he did females. It is not something he will ever admit aloud, but he allowed himself to give into his desires. He has taken male lovers, and he even slept with his sister--through, she doesn't realize it.
Every year a ball is held where the elites dress in the same attire and wear masks. Unwed females of sixteen years of age or older are required to attend. Through, married ones can attend if they wish. Most of the night is spent like normal balls, but at the very end each elite is allowed to take a female back to their private chambers reserved for them that night. While there is a certain stigma in denying an elite it is still allowed. At the ball, no such thing is true. Here if an elite wants a female she cannot refuse. Alaric wasn't the only elite there to show interest in his sister. There were others, but he ended up being the one to win her each year she attended the ball.
Isolda fourth ball would prove to be her last. Shortly after it took place, she begun to change. He watched her become a supernatural being. He knew that he should preform his duty and kill her. She was a supernatural being within his people lands. Death was the only response, but he couldn't he loved his sister. He had vowed to take care of her. Eventually the truth of what his sister became was found out, and she had to flee from the kingdom.
Alaric was disgraced and the only way he was to redeem himself was by hunting his sister and finish what he had failed to do in the first place. Several of his brothers offered to come with him, but he refused. This was his failure and he would bare it alone. He had vowed that he wouldn't suffer from the same affliction as his father. He would not put family before his duty to his country.
He tracked his sister across the lands until he eventually caught up with her. He planned on killing her, bring it to an end and returning with his honor restored, but things didn't go according to plan. He failed to kill her again. It wasn't from lack of trying. She rendered his attacks useless by kissing him. Had she kissed him as a way to disarm him, or done out of desire for him? Whichever was the case, doesn't matter, Alaric had ever intention of completing his duty.
Present
This would never come to pass. Alaric's hand was stayed by the crowned prince whom made his desire to wed his sister in spite the changes she was going through, and Darken even told her that she could bring her court into her lands if she wished. Isolda agreed. She, also, made it clear that she wished for Alaric to be her knight and king of the autumn court. It was a honor that Alaric did not wish to take at first, and it was not because of Adrealian's opinion of the supernatural. He had been questioning those opinions for awhile even if he was not ready to admit it. The reason he did not wish to accept this position was because he believed that no matter how hard he tried that one day he would be forced to choose between the two, and that wouldn't be fair to either.
It was during this time he learned more about the truth of Darken and his connection to him. Darken was the Dark Warrior--the founder of the elite order and a man that is greatly revered around the kingdom---and Alaric is an aspect of him. His powers---same powers that Alaric possesses--drove him mad with a lust for more power, and he tried to stay off the madness by dividing his soul into three parts. It worked for awhile, but the madness took hold of him once again and a great battle was had. One that result in the dark warrior being sealed away and two aspect of him to be fatally wounded. These two aspects would eventually be reborn as Alaric and the Princess Devaki. Alaric doesn't know what to think about this. It does explain the connection he felt towards Devaki, but at the same time he is afraid that someday he will end up suffering from the same madness that Darken had and wonders if his friend still suffers from it.

Time passed and Alaric eventually accepted the possibility of being knight of the Winter Court and King of the Autumn Court, and it was thanks to a witch named Kaleigh. A witch he had harbored strong romantic feelings towards, and whom felt the same for him. She confronted him with her desire, and during that confrontation he revealed his feeling towards her and agreed to be high priest to the light if she agreed to be his queen. He wished for them to be equal in all things, and as such he made it clear he will not accept his role among the fae if Kaleigh is not granted equal power as him. He was not the only whom expressed desire to change how the fae courts were set up. It is unclear how the courts will end up when everything is said and done, but one thing is clear he will greet the future with Kaleigh at his side.
